MV Delamotte Champagne, Brut, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Cóte des Blancs, France
Pairing Notes: We are thrilled to begin the evening with bubbles from one of our favorite houses. This wine is predominantly grand cru Chardonnay. Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier are added to finish the personality of the wine. The finish is elegant and perfectly balanced with notes of white flesh fruit, pear, and ginger.
2017 Penfolds Riesling, Bin 51, Eden Valley, South Australia
Pairing Notes: Penfolds originally began in 1844 with the intention of making medicinal wine. While they are known for the reds, namely St. Henri and Grange, tonight we wanted to share and highlight this dry, yet delicious Riesling. Tropical fruit flavors make this pairing with Ahi Tuna and Szechuan Peppercorns magical.
2017 Prieure de Montezargues Rose, Tavel, Rhone Valley, France
Pairing Notes: This estate is owned and operated by the Richard family under the Chateau La Nerthe umbrella. The vineyards are certified organic. The wine features notes of raspberries and strawberries with a refreshing, yet round, palate. It serves as an incredible complement to the Smoked Pork and Prosciutto.
2015 Machherndl Gruner Veltliner, Smaragd Kollmitz, Wachau, Austria
Pairing Notes: Erich Machherndl is the 8th generation owner of this estate that dates all the way back to 1786. The philosophy is a simple one, focus on tradition. This wine shows notes of orange citrus, white plum, and sage. The wine is full bodied and stands strong and proud with the Scallop, Poached Figs, and Summer Squash.
2016 Booker Red Blend, ‘My Favorite Neighbor’, Paso Robles
Pairing Notes: My Favorite Neighbor is a direct reference to the talented Stefan Asseo of L’Aventure wines. Stefan proved a great mentor when Eric Jensen was introduced to the Paso wine industry. This is a luscious, elegant offering of crème de cassis, violet, and smoked tobacco. There is something magical about enjoying this with the Braised Oxtail and Tomato Sugo.
2010 Alienor Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc, ‘Lune de Miel’, Lake County
Pairing Notes: Alienor is a tribute to Aliénor of Aquitaine and to the substantive contribution she made to the fine wines of Bordeaux. The glass is loaded with aromas and flavors of honey, nectar, and ripe peach. This is a gorgeous companion to the Vanilla Cream Puff and Passion Fruit. We could not think of a better way to bring the evening to an end.
