MV Delamotte, Champagne, Brut, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Cote des Blancs, France
Pairing Notes: We are thrilled to begin the evening with bubbles from one of our favorite houses. Our arrival Champagne is predominantly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, while Pinot Meunier is added to complete the wine’s charm. The finish is elegant and perfectly balanced with notes of stone fruit, lemon zest and minerality from Champagne’s prestigious soil.
2018 Alois Lageder Pinot Bianco, “Haberle,” Süditrol, Alto Adige, Italy
Pairing Notes: Since 1823, this family owned estate has been producing a diverse range of wine styles and varieties in Italy’s northernmost wine region. Their recent commitment to biodynamic practices has further solidified their prominence as the leading quality producer in the region. Tonight’s Carpaccio of Hibiscus Poached Monkfish pairs exceptionally with our first course wine’s notes of lively peach, citrus zest and terroir.
2011 Quinta das Bageiras, Baga, “Garrafeira Tinto,” Bairrada, Portugal
Pairing Notes: Kicking off our first red wine of the night is a Portuguese grape varietal named Baga. Proprietor and winemaker, Mário Sérgio Alves Nuno, utilizes 90-year-old vines to create a wine of refreshing character and concentration. Concentrated coffee notes and undertones of clay minerality immediately drove us to pair this with our White Corn “Gnocchi” and truffle-porcini sauce.
2016 Skinner, Syrah, El Dorado
Pairing Notes: Syrah is a versatile varietal and has the ability to produce incredible wines in various climates and regions. Kathy and Kevin Skinner’s Syrah blends grapes from Fair Play, CA and northern El Dorado to highlight our local region’s rustic minerality, while maintaining fruit-forward thinking. Tonight’s Pan Roasted Quail with Placer County Apples finds comfort knowing its beverage compadre is from the same neck of the woods.
2016 Piaggia, Blend, “Il Sasso,” Carmignano, Tuscany, Italy
Pairing Notes: Only 14 kilometers west of Florence, Piaggia farms has a fairly recent history only producing wines in Tuscany since 1991. Although rare to find in the states, the Carmignano region’s fresh Sangiovese, coupled with rich Bordeaux blends, truly operates to be the perfect Tuscan wine for the American palate. Our Pave of Braised Oxtail and Italian partial accoutrements are the ideal pairing with the “Il Sasso” sweet spice notes and full-body complexion.
2016 Selbach Oster, Riesling, Kabinett, Halbtrocken, Zeltinger Himmelreich, Mosel, Germany
Pairing Notes: The Selbach family has owned and operated 24 hectares on ungrafted vines since 1660. Devonian slate, steep vineyards, and central Moselle locality indicate a quality vineyard for the region. Tonight’s Halbtrocken, or off-dry, Riesling is intended to perk the palate and requench the hunger that may have subsided. This fabulous vintage tiptoes between soft lychee fruit and tonight’s pears, giving an ethereal mouthfeel with tonight’s elegant close.
