HOUSE WINE PAIRINGS

Fall 2019

$95 PER GUEST

arrival wine

MV Delamotte, Champagne, Brut, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Cote des Blancs, France

Pairing Notes: We are thrilled to begin the evening with bubbles from one of our favorite houses. Our arrival Champagne is predominantly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, while Pinot Meunier is added to complete the wine’s charm. The finish is elegant and perfectly balanced with notes of stone fruit, lemon zest and minerality from Champagne’s prestigious soil.

first course

2018 Haarmeyer Chenin Blanc, “Cresci,” Palmero Family Vineyard,
Borden Ranch, Sacramento County, California

Pairing Notes: Craig Haarmeyer has long been fascinated with the vineyards of Sacramento County, referring to his property east of Galt as “a clearing in the industrial winemaking jungle where we cultivate Sacramento Terroir”. His “Cresci” label shows an essence of Sacramento; bright summer sunlight and delicate flavors of almonds and sunflower petals. An intense, yet crisp structure for our opening course of Dungeness Crab transforms our wine into an oceanic burst, revealing mineral undertones in a sumptuous pairing.

second course

2017 Domaine du Petit Perou, Syrah “Désir”, Beaujolais, France

Pairing Notes: Now boasting five generations of winemaking, the Thevenet family is nestled in the village of Morgon, Beaujolais, France. Traditionally, the Morgon region produces the famous Gamay varietal. The Thevenet family produces fantastic and traditional Morgon wine from the region, but tonight we want to focus on their newcomer, Syrah. This is a beautifully aromatic expression of Syrah with notes of plum, violet, and subtle white pepper. The palate is smooth and silky with blueberries and plum with enough body and tannins to still be a big contender with the Smoked Hawaiian Walu.

third course

2017 Voluptuary Grenache, “Forest Bed,” Narrow Gate Vineyard, El Dorado County

Pairing Notes: Kevin Luther and his Voluptuary Cellars have quickly become a local benchmark for organic, Biodynamic and naturally produced wine. This Sacramento native states that “non-logically, emotionally, it’s just a hunch that it’s the right thing to do (and) let nature express itself with minimal intervention”. The “Forest Bed” showcases Grenache in a delicate and finesse driven form. Earthy and succulent, we find it plays perfect foil to our truffle laden Potato Gnocchi.

fourth course

2013 Scarbolo, Refosco, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy

Pairing Notes: Situated between the eastern Alps and the northern tip of the Adriatic Sea, the Friuli Venezia Giulia wine region is truly a unique and remarkable place. Famed wine maker Valter Scarbolo has all but resurrected the ancient Refosco grape, in an amazing labor of love. With diverse soils and adventurous spirit in Northeastern Italy, this wine’s personality is larger than life. An intricate structure of dark peppery spices and black fruit abound, beautifully mirroring our Apple Wood Roasted Beef Tenderloin and rich beurre rouge.

dessert course

2016 Selbach-Oster, Riesling, “Kabinett, Halbtrocken” Zeltinger Himmelreich, Mosel, Germany

Pairing Notes: The Selbach family has lovingly tended 24 hectares of steep vineyards in central Mosel since 1660; extracting amazing wines from the unique slate soil and non-grafted vines. A Halbtrocken, or off-dry Riesling, is intended to perk the palate as the hours of the evening dinner begin to linger. This particular vintage will enthrall with notes of soft lychee and rambutan fruit and will set the stage for our Figgy Pudding.
